PET (polyester) films come in two basic types: transparent (glossy and mat) and metallic (silver, gold) and can be coated with UV inks using the offset method. PET films are often used for laminating paper, cardboard, aluminium foil, polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride. Laminates made with this method have better mechanical, chemical and thermal performance. Such laminates are gas-impermeable, highly rigid and glossy. They are also resistant to high temperature. Polyester-aluminium laminates, thanks to their decorativeness and high barrier capacity for oxygen, fragrances, water vapour and light, as well as attestations for direct contact with food, are most often used for premium brand packaging in a number of industries.
Transparent PET laminate, besides the above-mentioned properties, gives the laminated surface high gloss and transparency.
